In home dog training in Silverlake district of Los Angeles, or as these pictures depict out and about in the community. More specifically distraction training at the park on the south side of silverlake. While training this dog we also worked at the dog park a little to the east of where these pictures were taken.

Distraction training at Silverlake in Los Angeles
If you look closely you will notice I have a second training leash over my shoulder. The second leash allows me to double handle this dog when we encounter extremely stimulating distractions. In the beginning, handling a dog around heavy distractions can be a challenge for the dog’s owner. By double handling we can comfortably work the dog in challenging conditions while the handler is learning good handling skills. The head collar also helps ease the task of working in areas of high distractions. An interesting behavior this dog has developed is that it has learned how to use its neck muscles to counter the effectiveness of the head collar. Fortunately good leash handling can shift the control back to the handler.

Training this dog with food would be desirable. However, when highly stimulate the dog has no interest in food. As time passes and the dog learns to relax more and more I expect it will begin taking food while working in the community. When the time comes that this dog is taking food when distracted, food rewards can be used to encourage ever more focused and calm behavior.

101-Dog-Training-tips.com and Adaptive Dog Training® present this short dog training video done at Los Angeles’s historic Silverlake. In this episode we’ll explore training a dog who is very distracted with other dogs. During this training session we are working to get focused attention from the dog while it is in a stimulating environment.

As always
