Serving South Orange County and North Orange County

dog trainers serving South Orange County and North Orange County areas

Lisa can help you maximize your dog’s full potential with her experience in animal behavior and her impressive academic achievements.

Living in South Orange County Lisa finds the beautiful surroundings perfectly suited to her outdoor lifestyle, with horseback riding and dog hiking. Although Lisa lives in South County the offices are in North Orange County this means we’re available to help dog owners throughout the area.

Dogs have been an important part of Lisa’s life ever since she witnessed the birth of a litter of pups in her early childhood. As many good dog trainers have done, Lisa spent her adolescence raising and training the family dogs. It was during these critical teenage years that Lisa began to unravel the mysteries of how a dog’s social nature can be used as the foundation for changing their behavior

After receiving a B. A. in biology from UC Santa Cruz, Lisa decided to pursue a graduate degree in animal behavior at UC Davis. This educational experience gave Lisa the opportunity to study a wide variety of animals including killer whales, Northern elephant seals, Rhesus macaques, California ground squirrels and wild horses. Lisa is fascinated by the natural world of animal both wild and domestic.

Her experience as a scientist has given her a unique insight into how and why animals behave the way they do and how best to teach them. While at UC Davis, Lisa gained a solid understanding of learning theory while achieving extensive knowledge about animal behavior through the study of ethology. Ethology is a science that encompasses all facets of behavior, ranging from evolution and genetics to the environment. Her extensive training in how to do scientific field observations of animals provides Lisa with the skills necessary to extract the important reasons or meaning behind the behavior we see in our dogs. This ability to scientifically analyze behavior can help you and your dog to a brighter future

A large part of success as a dog trainer comes from the ability not only to understand and train dogs, but in knowing how to teach people.

Your household will surly benefit from Lisa’s extensive teaching background, which is almost as varied as her experiences with animals.

Lisa brings to the Concepts In Dog Behavior® team a diverse set of training and teaching skills from many disciplines. Ranging from her involvement with teaching Junior Achievement programs to experience helping people learn complex and difficult physical tasks. Along with being a great dog trainer Lisa also trains horses and is a therapeutic riding instructor for children and adults with disabilities. In high school and college Lisa enjoyed many sports, her favorite one being gymnastics. Lisa’s gymnastic ability and love of teaching allowed her to help others learn this difficult skill as she worked her way through college. As a graduate student, Lisa served for a number of years as a teaching assistant for both lecture and laboratory science courses.

Some of the things Lisa enjoys doing in her spare time are activities with her dog and horse. The doggie activities can rage from teaching her dog tricks to going hiking and to dog beach. Teaching Lisa’s dog new trick behavior is made a bit more difficult because he only has three legs. Her horse is a constant source of fascination as she learns and perfects the horse training techniques made famous by some of the well known horse whisperers. Those who are often called horse whisperers frequently incorporate into their training the tendencies to behave in accordance with an animal’s genetic predisposition, and this is an approach Lisa uses extensively as a dog trainer.
