California is soon going to vote on legislation (AB 1634)
that will significantly influence the future evolution and development
of pet dogs. This legislation has good intentions with unforeseen consequences.
If the domestic dog population is reduced enough, over a given number
of years it will have catastrophic consequences on the canine gene pool.
Even if this legislation spreads over the nation as a species cleansing
plague it will not eliminate all dogs. However, it will move the behavior
of dogs in a particular direction. I believe that direction will be toward
behavior that is unhealthy for people.
The main reason I think dogs will move or deviate toward
anti social behavior is because those who live a criminal lifestyle will
be the last to comply. It is a criminal’s job to defy the law for
personal gain while harming society. (Doesn’t this sound like what
food suppliers do?)
This could put dog ownership right up there with switchblades
and machine guns. The idea behind this is that only criminals would want
intact dogs, so all dog owners must be criminals. I can see it now the
department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Dog Control. In fact owning
an intact dog could be considered a crime worse than poising the United
States food supply. Okay, I admit it will probably not get that bad and
I am being a little facetious. However, politicians are known for outlawing
and condemning anything they can associate with criminal behavior.
Here is a website with more information about this issue. I have not read
through the site. it was referred to my by a friend. http://saveourdogs.net/
As we have seen with the pet/human food contamination,
pets play a huge role in public health. It needs to be emphasized that
I mean more than as a public health problem. Dogs are active assets to
the health of our nation. As I have said in the last several days, not
only can dogs be “the canary in the coal mine,” but they play
an active role in the fabric of modern humanities well being. As many
of you know I feel that China’s strict dog policies are misguided
not only because, in the West they seem cruel, but because I feel it is
in a Countries economic self interest to promote pet dog ownership.
If we pass mandatory dog spay and neuter laws we will
be influencing nature in a way that most people are not aware of. One
of the ideas in my new book is that we need to see things that are far
off and distant as if they are here today. What will dogs be like in fifty
years if we take most of the canine good citizens out of the gene pool?
What will happen if those good citizens are replaced by criminals?
